Pan-African animated show, Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire, has been announced as one of the winners at the 2024 Annie Awards. The show’s final episode, “Enkai”, won an award in the Best Limited Series in the TV/Media category. Triggerfish Animation Studios, the anthology’s lead production company, also bagged a win in the Best Music in TV/Media category for their work on Star Wars: Visions.
Other winners at the 51st edition of the Annie Awards include Nimona, Blue Eye Samurai, Spiderman: Across the Spider-verse, The Boy and the Heron, The Little Poet, Hilda, Ghee Happy, and many others. Sony Pictures Animation Spiderman: Across the Spider-verse, and Netflix’s Blue Eye Samurai led the winners’ list with 7 and 6 wins each.
While announcing the win on their Instagram page, Triggerfish Animated Studios commented, “To Ng’endo Mukii and Markus Wormstorm who reminded us all how to trust the process, Congratulations! Hongera! Nĩ wega! Baie geluk! Absolutely none of this would have been possible without the team of directors, producers, cast, and crew that worked tirelessly to see this dream come to fruition. We are unwavering in our intention to bring distinct stories from diverse voices to the global stage and recognition like this keeps the embers burning”.
Lead produced by Triggerfish Animation Studios, Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire is a sci-fi fantasy anthology series that includes 10 animated short films from creators from Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Egypt, South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
Founded in 1972, the Annie Awards is an award ceremony presented annually by the Los Angeles branch of the International Film Association. The award show recognises excellence in animation across TV, short films, feature films, and many others. The Annie Award spans 32 categories from best feature, production design, character animation, and effects animation to storyboarding, writing, music, editing, and voice acting, This year, the ceremony was sponsored by Pixar, Walt Disney, Warner Bros Animation, Netflix, Dreamworks, Illumination, Sony Pictures Animation, Paramount Animation, Nickelodeon, and GKids.
