Edebiri becomes the newest member of “Actors of Nigerian decent” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel Cinematic Universe has seen a number of Nigerian-born actors including Chiwetel Ejiofor (“Baron Mordo,” Doctor Strange), and Chukwudi Iwuji (Undisclosed role in Guardians of the Galaxy,Vol 3) play prominent roles in its films, and American-Nigerian actress, Ayo Edebiri, is the latest to join the biggest superheroes franchise.
The Bear actress and rising star is joining the Marvel’s upcoming movie, Thunderbolts, in a yet to be revealed character. But Deadline reports that this is Edebiri’s first major studio starring role, which could see her play a prominent character in an unconventional team completing missions for the government.

Edebiri’s career came to limelight after starring in the FX award-winning series, The Bear, where she played the character of sous chef “Sydney Adamu,” earning her a Critics Choice Rising Star Award for the Comedy Series. She is also the voice behind “Missy Foreman Greenwald” on Netflix’s animated comedy, Big Mouth.
Thunderbolts, which is the climax of Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will see Ayo Edebiri starring alongside Marvel’s Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Hannah John-Kamen, and David Harbour.
Filming for Thunderbolts will begin in June, with the premiere set for July 26, 2024.
