The three African writers are nominated for their newest, latest books.

Goodreads has nominated Nigerian writer, Akwaeke Emezi; Sudanese writer, Safia Elhillo; and Somali writer, Warsan Shire, for the 2022 Goodread Choice Awards.
Emezi is nominated in the “Romance” category for their novel, You Made a Fool of Death With Your Beauty. Shire is nominated in the “Poetry” category for her collection, Bless the Daughter Raised by a Voice in Her Head. Elhillo is nominated also in the “Poetry” category for her collection, Girls That Never Die.
The winners in the three categories will be decided through voting by Goodreads users. Voting ends December 4th, and winners will be announced on December 8th, 2022.
The Goodreads Choice Awards which started in 2019 selects its first round of nominees by “analyzing the books rated and reviewed on the platform.”
