The Slum King, a gripping crime drama series starring Tobi Bakre as the lead cast, is set to premiere on Africa Magic Showcase on October 8, 2023.
The 10-episode series, created by Chichi Nworah, is a significant addition to the Africa Magic Showcase lineup, in celebration of Africa Magic’s 20 years of creating magic with film.
The Slum King follows the story of Edafe “Maje Esu” Umukoro, played by Tobi Bakre, who at the tender age of 11, witnessed the gruesome murder of his entire family by a ruthless gang of armed robbers. Overwhelmed with guilt and trauma, he joins a drug cartel network, setting the stage for a dark path marked by a dangerous ambition, revenge, and bloodshed. Edafe gradually morphed into Maje, rising to power as the ruthless king of the slums.

The role is yet another riveting performance in a crime-action thriller from the former Big Brother Naija housemate following his stellar portrayal of “Akin Adetula” in Brotherhood, earning the AMVCA 9 Best Actor award in a drama, and as “Obalola” in the groundbreaking film, Gangs of Lagos.
Tobi Bakre is joined by his Gangs of Lagos co-star, Olarotimi Fakunle, Jidekene Achufusi, Aladese, Elvina Ibru, Hermes Iyele, India Aisien, Sonia Irabor, Steph Naya Isuma, veteran actors, Kanayo.O.Kanayo and Charles Onojie, amongst others.

The series, directed by Dimeji Ajibola and produced by Chichi Nworah, (Shanty Town), is a thrilling exploration of pain, vengeance, power, and the corrupting influence of power.
The Slum King will premiere 8th of October on DSTV channel 151, 8 pm WAT.
