British-Nigerian writer, Yomi Adegoke, has been announced as one of the writers shortlisted for the prestigious British Book Awards. Her debut novel, The List, was nominated in the Best Debut Fiction and Best Audiobook Fiction category. 

Adegoke is shortlisted alongside authors like Prince Harry, Britney Spears, Colleen Hoover, R.F Kuang, Gabrielle Zevin, Elliot Page, Matt Lucas, Lisa Jewell, and many others. The winners chosen from 12 different categories will be announced on May 13, 2024.

Yomi Adegoke is a multi-award-winning journalist and bestselling author. She is currently a columnist at The Guardian and British Vogue. She is a recipient of the Groucho Maverick Award and a Marie Claire Future Shaper Award, and in 2021 she was named one of Forbes 30 under 30. Adegoke has contributed to several literary works like Slay in Your Lane, Loud Black Girls, “The Oppressor in the Mirror”: An essay from the collection, Of This Our Country, and The Offline Diaries. Last year, it was announced that the movie rights to co-develop The List into a television series had been acquired by UK’s top drama production companies, HBO Max, BBC, and American production company, A24. The British-Nigerian writer will work on the series as a creator and executive producer.

The British Book Awards, popularly known as The Nibbies, is an award ceremony dedicated to celebrating books. The award celebrates the intimate connection between books, their makers, and their audience, with nominees in various categories like fiction, fiction debut, nonfiction lifestyle, nonfiction narrative, children’s fiction, children’s nonfiction, and children’s nonfiction illustrated, crime and thriller, and many others.

This year’s judges include actress Toby Jones, broadcaster and author Nihal Arthanayake, Gaby Wood, Lorraine Kelly, Adrian Chiles, Yinka Bokinni, Candice Brathwaite, Janice Hallett, and others.
