10 filmmakers will produce short films, while the rest will work on microfilms.

The British Council Film Lab Africa project has unveiled the filmmakers who have emerged as the recipients of its newly created film grant. The selected filmmakers were pulled from a list of 60 filmmakers who had completed a five-week training. Thereafter, they pitched their short film project ideas and 20 filmmakers were chosen. The selections were based on creativity, storytelling prowess, and impact. From the pitch session, 10 filmmakers were selected to receive £5,000 (~$6,300) to produce their short films, while 10 filmmakers will receive £500 (~$630) to produce microfilms.
Among the top 10 short filmmakers who will each receive £5,000 are; Shimatever Igbawua, Twansen Danann, Stephanie Coker Aderinokun, Jemima Pearl Marcel-Udoh, Akah Nnani, Anyanwu Sandra Adaora, Moses Ipadeola, Mel Rouge, Faustina Okomayin, and Temi Ami-Williams. Micro filmmakers who will each receive £500 include; Temiloluwa Oluokun, Tolulope Odebunmi, Jennifer Nkem Eneanya, Ayinde Amoo, Afahaene Winifred Allen, Fortune Animiokhali, Samuel O. Olateru, Olatomi Falore, Adikwu Lucy Hannah, and Peace Monday Shalom.
The finalists will continue to benefit from mentorship and engagement until May 2024, ahead of their project execution. The grant recipients will be mentored by Prof Ahmed Yerima, Kenneth Uphopho, Kehinde Joseph, Yinka Ogun, WaltBanger Taylaur, Bunmi Ajakaiye, Emil Garuba, Tari Taylaur, Abbesi Akhamie, and Tunde Babalola. Their films will be showcased at festivals in Nigeria, Africa, and the rest of the world. These films will be supported by the British Council.
