Sierra-Leonian writer, Tracy Coker, has emerged winner of the Blue Pencil Agency First Novel Award for her manuscript, White Yams. This year’s prize was judged by literary agents, Rowan Lawton, and Marina de Pass, and author Jo Bloom.
The prize is awarded to the best novel manuscript by unrepresented and unpublished authors in the adult fiction genre.
Judge, Jo Bloom, describes Coker’s manuscript as an “absorbing, well-written story” which “deftly weaves through some powerful cultural themes.”
Coker will receive a £1,000 cash prize and possible agent representation at The Soho Agency.
Coker’s work appears in Rigorous literary journal, Short Fiction Break online literary magazine, and Pede Hollist’s Literature Blog.
