The Prince of Afrobeats, Rema, was one of the big winners at the recently concluded 2023 The Beatz Awards, held at the Shell Hall, Muson Centre, Lagos. The year’s edition tagged “The Octave” sought to celebrate and honour the professionals working behind the scenes in the Nigerian music industry, and showcased an evening of glamour and well-deserved recognition.
Rema clinched the “Songwriter of the Year” award for his 2023 hit single “Charm”, solidifying his position as one of the country’s most promising musical talents. In another triumph for Rema, his record label, Mavin Records, emerged as the “Record Label of the Year”. The win underscored Mavin’s unwavering commitment to nurturing and promoting top-tier talents, further cementing the label’s dominance in the Nigerian music scene.

The DJ booth saw remarkable victories, with DJ YK Mule named “Male DJ of the Year”, and DJ Nana honoured as the “Female DJ of the Year”. Magicsticks and Rage, renowned for exceptional production, clinched the “Male Producer of the Year” for Davido’s 2023 single “Unavailable”, while Saszy Afroshii, an outstanding female producer, was duly recognised as the “Female Producer of the Year” for Chike’s 2022 track, “Bad”.
Other notable winners include Rema’s manager, Sean Okeke, who won the “Artiste Manager of the Year”. Timi Jay was honoured as the “Mix and Mastering Engineer of the Year” for his exceptional work on Mohbad’s 2022 street-hop anthem, “Peace”. The highly-coveted “Music Video Director of the Year” award went to Gorilla Boy for the music video of Guchi’s 2022 song “All Over You”.
