Nigerian filmmaker, Tola Olatunji’s film, Kanaani (The Promise Land), will debut in cinemas in Nigeria on September 15, 2023. The film, which was nominated for Best Film and Best Writer at the 2023 Africa Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), will be distributed by FilmOne Entertainment.
Kanaani (The Promise Land), written by film director and screenwriter, Babatunde Apalowo, and directed by Olatunji, tells the story of two lovers who vying for greener pastures abroad. However, their lives are changed by this decision as they are thrown into the underbelly of slavery and sex trafficking. The film stars Ivie Okujaiye, Gabriel Afolayan, Joseph Benjamin, Ayo-Adey Kosh, and many others.

Before making its cinema debut in Nigeria, the film made rounds in several theatres in the U.S. Kanaani (The Promise Land) was also selected for the Maui Film Festival, the Pan African Film Festival, and the WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival.
