African streaming giant, Showmax, will on January 26th, 2023, launch a new Nigerians telenovela titled Wura, as it continues to expand its library of local content and investment in Nigeria’s film industry.

The original drama series is Show max’s first and longest running Nigerian telenovela, with over 200 episodes, making it a must-see for fans of the genre.

Wura is an adaptation of the hit South African 1Magic telenovela, The River, and it explores the untold story of gold-mining in SouthwestNigeria.

The episodic drama, though fictional, is set in Iperindo, a small community with gold deposits in Osun state, and centers on Wura-Amoo Adeleke, a perfect wife, a loving mother of two, and the ruthless Chief executive Officer of the fictional “Frontline Gold Mine” as she navigates the challenges of the industry.

While she is seen as a faultless saint by her family, her reputation within her business empire tells a different story; for she is the ultimate iron lady who doesn’t care whose ox is gored in her path to get what she wants. The series also highlights the inequality and poverty that plague Iperindo and surrounding communities despite its natural resources.
