Nigerian comedian, Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule, professionally known as Okey Bakassi, is making his filmmaking debut with a crime-comedy titled Bank Alert

The comedy flick, scheduled to be released in cinemas on November 24, 2023, will see the veteran comedian take up a dual role as the lead actor and executive producer.

Directed by Akay Mason (Elevator Baby), and produced by Wingonia Ikpi, the film boasts an impressive ensemble cast that includes industry bigwigs such as Kate Henshaw, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Tina Mba, Taiwo Hassan, Uzor Arukwe, Bolanle Ninalowo and others.

Although details about the film’s plot remain under wraps, Bank Alert has been touted as a rib-cracking comedy with a blend of suspense.

The film is a collaborative production of FilmOne Studios, Trino Motion Pictures, Tribal Marks Media, and Sterling Bank. It will be distributed by FilmOne Entertainment.

Bank Alert is not Bakassi’s first stint in acting. The stand-up comedian known for his hilarious performances at the Night of a Thousand Laughs show has featured in some productions such as My Flatmates, Madam President, Badamasi, Love Is in the Hair, Prime Video’s comedy show,  Last One Laughing Naija, and many others. In 2014, he won the award for “Best Actor in a Leading Role (Igbo)” award at the Best of Nollywood Awards for his performance in the film Onye Ozi.

The 54-year-old with a career spanning over three decades in the entertainment industry as a stand-up comedian, event host, and actor, now joins the league of comedians such as  AY Makun and Bovi who have transitioned from stand-up comedy to filmmaking.
