Niyi Akinmolayan’s latest creation, Rainmakers, is set to debut on Amazon Prime. The documentary explores rainmaking in Nigeria and will air on March 1, 2024.
Rainmakers will be another Anthill Studios release on Amazon Prime, as part of the multi-year licensing deal signed by both companies in 2022.
Akinmolayan, who directed and produced the documentary, shared short clips of the creation process on Instagram.
He commented, “In 2022, I picked up a camera, travelled with Ade Obatoyinbo and a cam team to Ogun, Oyo, and Edo state to meet with rainmakers and test their powers against scientific predictions. I did all the necessary rituals and learned a lot about rainmaking and the all-powerful Sango deity. This documentary will be coming to Prime Video in March. [The] trailer [is] coming soon. There’s so much I’m going to share as we countdown to the release. Is rainmaking real or just a trick!! Find out soon.”
On one of his trips, the filmmaker covered a festivity in the Oyo Kingdom and was assured by rainmakers that rain wouldn’t halt their celebration.
Rainmakers will feature 20 rainmakers across three states in Nigeria. It will be narrated by Ade Obatoyinbo.
