Netflix continues to demonstrate its dedication to supporting the burgeoning African film industry, particularly in the crime thriller genre, as evidenced by the successes of King of Boys, Collision, and Omo Ghetto: The Saga, amongst others. The streaming giant has recently announced the upcoming release of a new series titled “Unseen,” a South African crime thriller, set to debut on March 29, 2023.
The new addition to its riveting collection is a six-part series that delves into the suspenseful narrative of Zenzi Mwale, a domestic worker who hides behind her identity as an unassuming cleaner while desperately searching for her husband who went missing after he is released from prison. However, Zenzi’s search is complicated by her run-in with dangerous and powerful criminals, whose violent tendencies threaten the seemingly “mere sweeper” as she called herself.
The official trailer released gives viewers a glimpse of the gripping violence as “Zenzi” finds herself the subject of intense police interrogations for her alleged involvement in a spate of brutal murders that have rocked the city.
The cast includes an impressive list of South African actors led by Gail Mabalane as Zenzi Mwale, Rapulana Seiphemo, Vuyo Dabula, Colin Moss, Shimmy Isaacs, and Dineo Langa.
Unseen is created by Travis Taute, and Daryne Joshua, and produced by Gambit Films, the production powerhouse behind Blood & Water, and is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix March 29, 2023.
