Libianca Wins Best New International Act Award at 2023 BET Award

Cameroonian artiste, Libianca, has been announced as the Best New International Act winner at the just concluded Black Entertainment Television (BET) award show. The award show, which recognises the accomplishments of musicians, actors, athletes, and outstanding individuals in different spheres of the entertainment sector worldwide, also named Burna Boy and Tems as the winners of the Best International Artist and the Best Collaboration category, respectively.

This award makes Libianca a first-time BET winner and marks Tems’ third BET award for her contributions to Future’s “WAIT FOR U.” On the other hand, Burna Boy became the first African artiste to win the Best International Artist four times. Other winners announced include Beyonce, Usher, Chris Brown, SZA, Marsai Martin, Kendrick Lamar, Teyana Taylor, Angela Bassett, Damson Idris, and many others. The 2023 edition, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop, honored Busta Rhymes with a lifetime achievement award, and paid tribute to the late Tina Turner.

Asides from winning an award at the BET, Libianca also gave an electrifying performance of her hit single, “People,” at the award show. Nigerian artiste, Davido also gave a riveting performance of some of the songs off his Timeless album.

Ever since Libianca competed in the music show, The Voice, she has climbed several music charts and broken several records with the emotive single tagged “People.” Since then, she has followed it up with a remix featuring Nigeria’s own Ayra Starr and Omah Lay, and her latest single, “Jah,” is another testament to her talent.

The BET Awards is an American award show established in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television, to celebrate black entertainers and other minorities in music, film, sports, and philanthropy. The awards, which are presented annually, are broadcast live on BET. The annual presentation ceremony also features different artists’ performances and memorable red carpet-moments.
