The 2023 Jorg FilmFest will commence on Tuesday and end on Sunday, holding at various locations in the city.

The Joburg Film Festival, in collaboration with MultiChoice Group, returns after a 2-year break and will kick off on Jan. 31, 2023 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
This highly-anticipated event will showcase over 60 local & international films from South Africa, Tunisia, Seoul, Brazil, USA, Japan, Morocco, and more, with a mix of feature films and documentaries showcasing stories that cross cultural boundaries.
The opening film for this year’s screening ceremony will be Xale, a Senegalese feature. The movie follows the life of 15-year-old African schoolgirl Awa, who is enjoying her teenage years with her twin brother Adama, with dreams of going to Europe. However, things go south after their grandmother dies. The film takes viewers on a journey through themes of family, love, life, and betrayal. See complete list of films screening at the festival.
Other highlights include a 3-day lineup of masterclasses and panel discussions led by industry experts.
The Joburg Film Festival is Africa’s top film festival, recognised for its independence and showcasing of exceptional filmmaking. It also provides young and emerging filmmakers opportunities for development, training, skill enhancement, and networking, powered by a robust Bursary scheme from MultiChoice Group.
The JoburgFilmFest will take place from Tuesday, January 31st to Sunday, February 5th, 2023, at various locations across the city.
