The Joburg Film Festival, in collaboration with MultiChoice Group, returns after a 2-year break and will kick off on Jan. 31, 2023 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

This highly-anticipated event will showcase over 60 local & international films from South Africa, Tunisia, Seoul, Brazil, USA, Japan, Morocco, and more, with a mix of feature films and documentaries showcasing stories that cross cultural boundaries.

The opening film for this year’s screening ceremony will be Xale, a Senegalese feature. The movie follows the life of 15-year-old African schoolgirl Awa, who is enjoying her teenage years with her twin brother Adama, with dreams of going to Europe. However, things go south after their grandmother dies. The film takes viewers on a journey through themes of family, love, life, and betrayal. See complete list of films screening at the festival.
