The entertainment industry is buzzing with excitement as the festivals, nominations, and awards season continues, this time taking place in Uganda, East Africa, where nominees for the highly anticipated first edition of the iKon Awards were announced.
iKon Awards, a prestigious event put together by SAUTIplus Media Hub, will recognise and reward exceptional individuals and organisations who embody creativity, innovation, and enterprise in their work in the Ugandan Film and Television industry.
Themed “Dreaming with the Stars,” the award ceremony will feature 32 categories including documentaries, animations, VFX, editing, amongst others, with over 100 nominees competing. Check the nominee list here.
According to Humphrey Nabimanya, founder of the iKon Awards, the initiative is essential, in not only celebrating the industry but also encouraging more Ugandans to showcase their stories and craft which has been a great boost to country’s tourism and heritage.
The award plaque takes the form of a locally crafted basket called a “Kibo,” a highly respected ornament in Ugandan culture. With the sun at its center, the accolade symbolises the harvest of greatness, and serves as a fitting reward for the iKon Award winners.
The iKon Awards ceremony will hold on Saturday 25th March, 2023 at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
