One of Nigeria’s veteran filmmakers, Zeb Ejiro, has returned to the screens with the reboot of one of his hit series, Ripples. The series, which will now be called Ripples: The New Generation, started airing exclusively on June 21, 2023, on Africa Magic Showcase.

Ripples: The New Generation is centred around the life of Doris (Tope Olowoniyan), Leslie Dehinde-Philip’s granddaughter and the heir to the Dehinde-Philip empire. The series documents how Doris tries to live a perfect life even though she yearns for something different. The series, which comes 30 years after the initial show, explores the challenges of oil spillage, the battle for freedom, and many more.

While commenting on the new series, Ejiro said, “I feel so happy that we have been able to create Ripples: The New Generation because today we have made history. Ripples is the only TV series or soap opera that was done thirty years ago and is back again. No other program has been able to achieve this. Yet, we are doing a mix of the old and new generation.”

The series stars veteran actors like Alex Usifo, Barbara Soky, Emeka Ossai, and Keppy Ekpeyong-Bassey, who reprise their roles as Talab Abass, Daphne Wellington-Cole, Wale Okoya, and Admiral (formerly Captain) Hassan, respectively. At the same time, Tope Olowoniyan leads the new cast alongside Debby Felix, Daniel Abua, Vine Olugu, Ian Wordi, Lexan Peters, Francis Onwoche, and many others.

The 13-episodes series airing every Wednesday is the latest addition to the reboot season the industry is experiencing. Ripples: The New Generation joins other classics like Sakobi, Living in Bondage, Rattlesnake, Domitila, Nneka the Pretty Serpent, and many others to make its return to the big screens.

With its return to the big screens, Ejiro’s Ripples: The New Generation joins other series like Lahira and The Hidden on Africa Magic Showcase (DStv ch.151).
