Chocolate City’s newest signee, Noon Dave, has released his single titled “Brunch.” This marks the singer’s introduction to the Nigerian music scene from the vintage record label.
Born David Obafemi, Noon Dave taps into his songwriting inspiration from a diverse exposure to elements of Soul, R&B, Pop, and Afrobeat, to create a unique sound.
Bred in the city of Lagos, Noon Dave is carving his own niche in the music scene by creating an experience with his songs. He does this in “Brunch.”
The single which is a lead off his forthcoming project is accompanied by a vibrant display of subtle and pure vocals.
On this single, Noon Dave sings almost exclusively about taking his lover to brunch, or more specifically, about the titillating promise of sex. This oozing sensuality yields mood music as he treats consent like a warm embrace.
In “Brunch,” Noon Dave explored the friction between new wave and old-school R&B, but with the refreshing infusion of pidgin. The song is, then, both timeless and futurisitic; familiar, and yet retro.
Speaking about this single, Noon Dave explained that “Brunch” was inspired by Saint JHN’s music. “I listened to him, and this moved me to make a song lovers can enjoy whilst having a great time.”
Noon Dave who was signed into Chocolate City records in 2021 hopes that listeners of his song will be entertained by his sound and music.
