Netflix Unveils Trailer for Upcoming Series, “Miseducation”

Popular movie streaming service, Netflix, has released the official trailer for a new South African series, Miseducation. The series, which will air on Netflix on September 15, 2023, is a creation of Burnt Onion Productions, the masterminds behind How To Ruin Christmas. The young adult series follows the story of Mbali Hadebe (Buntu Petse), a famous influencer, who is cancelled after her mother is exposed as a fraudulent politician. Intending to escape from her mother’s scandal, Hadebe relocates to Grahamstown University in Makhanda and tries to reinvent herself. 

The series stars Buntu Pentse, Lunga Shabalala, Micaela Tucker, Prev Reddy, Sechaba Ramphele, Mamarumo Marokane, Mandisa Nduna, Mpho Sebeng, and many others.

While speaking about the film with Netflix, Rethabile Ramaphakela, the co-creator and creative director for Burnt Onion said, “We’re excited for South Africa and the world to see our latest comedy-drama that we’ve cooked up with Netflix. This time around, a teen comedy about varsity life. Miseducation promises to be an offbeat and fun comedy-drama series with a diverse bunch of colourful characters who are just trying to get through this thing called life.”

Rethabile Ramaphakela and Katleho Ramaphakela created Miseducation. It was written by Lwazi Mvusi, Sunni Faba, Tumi Morake, Brad Katzen, and Mojak Lehoko, and produced by Phuthi Nakene and Lwazi Mvusi. Catharine Cooke, Themba Mfebe, Lwazi Mvuzi, and Rea Rangaka directed the series.
