Kehinde Bankole-Led Drama, “Adire”, Heads to Netflix This Friday

Adire is the first original title from Nigeria’s lead film distributor, FilmOne Entertainment.

After a successful six-week run in theatres from November 3 to December 14, 2023, Adire is gearing up for its Netflix debut on Friday, January 12, 2024. The film, which marks FilmOne Entertainment’s foray into filmmaking, earned a total of ₦31,061,100 with 11,501 cinema admissions during its time in theatres nationwide. 

Adire is a redemptive drama directed by Adeoluwa Owu (Captain Degzy), who is the co-director of A Tribe Called Judah, the first Nollywood title to gross over ₦ 1 billion. Adire follows the story of a former sex worker, Adire, played by Kehinde Bankole, who strives to leave her past behind and moves to a small town to set up a fashion business. However, as her new life begins to bloom, her past comes back to haunt her. The film explores the challenges she faces when her former pimp resurfaces.

Adire garnered praise for the outstanding performances of its cast, with Kehinde Bankole shining as Adire, and Kelechi Udegbe as Tobi. The film also stars Femi Branch, Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi, Yemi Blaq, Yvonne Jegede, Lizzy Jay, Layi Wasabi, and Jack’ennette Opukeme, who also served as the film’s creator.

FilmOne Entertainment has been at the forefront of film distribution and production in Nigeria, and boasts a diverse portfolio of indigenous and international titles. Adire, its first-ever original title will be available on Netflix Global on Friday 12, January 2024.
