Davido’s “Timeless” Becomes the First African Album to Top US iTunes Chart

Aside from becoming the number one album on the US iTunes chart, Timeless also becomes the first and only Afrobeats album to debut all tracks in the top 100 United Kingdom Apple Music top songs chart.

Nigerian singer and songwriter, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has broken a new record with his recently released album, Timeless. The album has become the first African album to clinch the number-one spot on the US iTunes chart. The 17-track project, which was released on March 31, 2023, featured artistes like The Cavemen., Fave, Asake, Angélique Kidjo, Logos Olori, Morravey, and many others.

Asides from becoming the number one album on the US iTunes chart, Timeless also became the first and only Afrobeats album to debut all tracks in the top 100 of the United Kingdom Apple Music top songs chart. Although part of the album was reportedly leaked before its release, it has done well as the global streaming giant, Spotify, announced Davido’s Timeless as the most streamed in the United Kingdom, Canada, France, and Nigeria.

In addition, the album also became the biggest album of first-day streams in the history of Audiomack. Since the release of Timeless, Davido has given thrilling performances in Lagos, New York, and has also entertained music lovers on the popular American Primetime TV Show, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Since Davido came into the music scene in 2011, he has broken many records with multiple wins under his belt. Some of these wins include winning Best International Act at the 2018 BET Awards, and becoming the first African artist to receive his award on the main stage. He also became the first African artist to get a gold certification in the US and Canada in 2020 with “Fall.” In 2017, Davido won the Best African Act at the MOBO Awards and became the first African act to perform live.
