Alkelan Books, a publishing firm committed to telling authentic African stories, has announced the launch of its inaugural printed anthology, titled “Whispers of Alkebulan: An Anthology of African Science Fiction and Fantasy”.
The anthology, aimed at showcasing indigenous African Science Fiction and Fantasy (SFF) stories, is now accepting original works from African writers for inclusion in this groundbreaking collection.
With entries ranging between 1500 to 3000 words, writers are expected to explore themes that reflect and reimagine the rich African culture, tradition, and people in creative ways.
Interested authors can make their submissions to alkelanpress@gmail.com from now until March 3rd, 2024. Submitted stories must be previously unpublished original works with proof of copyrights included.
Selected writers based in Nigeria will each receive three copies of the printed edition as a token of appreciation for their contribution to the anthology.
“This anthology aims to amplify the voices of African writers in speculative fiction and showcase the wealth of talent within the continent’s literary space. We believe that by providing a platform for diverse perspectives, we can inspire and entertain readers around the world”, says Omobolaji Olofinnika who is CEO and co-founder of the emerging publisher.
Alkelan Books is dedicated to promoting African Science Fiction and Fantasy and related genres and hopes to ‘reimagine African stories,’ to transform the literary scene by presenting unexplored perspectives in African storytelling that will spur the imagination, aspiration, and resilience of African readers.
