Sony Future Filmmaker Awards organisers have announced the winners of its 2024 edition. The winners include filmmakers from Nigeria and South Africa. For their film, Irun Didi, Nigerian filmmakers Olawunmi Hassan and Adaobi Samson won in the Best Non-Fiction category, making them the first Africans to win this category.
South African filmmaker, Raheem Razak, snagged a win in the Best Student Film for Anguish.
Other winners include Katie Blair (Fiction), Solmund MacPherson (Environment), Kyle Novak (Animation), and Cristian Daniel (Future Format). All winners will receive Sony camera equipment and cash prizes.
The Sony Future Filmmaker Awards was created by Creo and is sponsored by Sony. The awards are dedicated to spotlighting incredible short films and supporting independent filmmakers and creators from across the world. The winners from each category will win cash prizes and a range of Sony digital imaging equipment.
This year’s jury was chaired by award-winning director Justin Chadwick and includes Michael Barker and Tom Bernard, Co-Founders and Co-Presidents of Sony Pictures Classics, Rob Hardy ASC, BSC, BAFTA award-winning cinematographer, and Kate Reid BSC, acclaimed British cinematographer.
