The Toronto International Film Festival will be held from September 5th to 15th, 2024.

Films from African filmmakers: Nigeria’s Afolabi Olalekan, Zambia’s Rungano Nyoni and South Africa’s Embeth Davidtz, have been selected to be screened at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF24).
Olalekan’s Freedom Way, Nyoni’s On Becoming a Guinea Fowl, and Davidtz’s Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight will screen in the Special Presentations category, Galas category, Discovery Programme, respectively.
Freedom Way follows the story of six Nigerians with different lives whose lives are constantly disrupted by unfavourable laws and corrupt police officers. The film will have its world premiere at the festival. It stars Adebowale ‘Mr Macaroni’ Adebayo, Jable Ogranya, Jesse Suntele, Mike Afolarin, Femi Jacobs, and Bimbo Akintola.
On Becoming a Guinea Fowl is a comedy-drama film that is centred around a family whose deep secrets begin to creep out during a funeral. The film stars Elizabeth Chisela, Henry B.J. Phiri, Benson Mumba, and Susan Chardy. The film also competed in the Un Certain Regard section at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight is an adaptation of Alexander Fuller’s memoir of the same name. The film explores the tumultuous truce between white landowners and black farm workers during the 1980 election in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe).
Other films screening at the festival include Morgan Neville’s Piece by Piece, Edward Burns’ Millers in Marriage, Ryoo Seung-Wan’s I, the Executioner, Edward Berger’s Conclave, and others. In total, 63 films from 25 countries will be showcased. The Toronto International Film Festival will be held from September 5th to 15th, 2024. It will also feature activities such as an industry conference, panel discussions, and other special events.
