UK-based Ossy Brown’s recent two-pack release is a dash between two worlds – a brilliant attempt at showing sonic range, and an impressive multi-genre collision. These singles, “Slow Whyne” and “Roma Roma (Mr Romantic)” showcase the versatility of the artiste, with both titles currently receiving impressive airplay across traditional and digital platforms.

On “Slow Whyne”, Ossy Brown marries intricate log drums with sleazy strings to form the bedrock of the song’s production. “You make a good boy go bad”, the singer confesses in the opening verse. The song veers to another arc as Ossy Brown leads listeners through a romantic journey. Upon the tune’s one-minute mark, the crowd vocals collide with the chorale-esque backup vocalists, with the artiste exuding his mastery of words. His songwriting skills are the perfect vehicle for the backup singers to be carried, revealing the thoughtfulness put into the song’s creation.

The opening verse of “Roma Roma (Mr Romantic)” finds Ossy Brown vocalising his excitement about his lover. The haunting intro slowly gives way for the upbeat track to fully unfurl. This SOZ-produced song is a mashup of Dancehall and Afrobeats, with the artiste taking copious input from 90s R&B. In this two-minute, fifty-one-second-long song, Ossy Brown impeccably articulates his words, delivering a track that is deliberately and sequentially arranged.

With this release, listeners are taken through another timeline – a pleasant sonic love trip. While the production starts mildly, it switches up as the upbeat kicks take effect, amplified by a quirky lead guitar. The artiste has given audiences a superb romantic gift, one that would be on the lip of everyone for a long time. Even when the song rhythm seems to become tough for Ossy Brown to manoeuvre, he still finds a way to mend through. The momentum Ossy Brown has gathered is evident that “Roma Roma (Mr Romantic)” is not a fluke.
