Onyeka Nwelue Set to Release a New Book, “The Nigerian Mafia: Johannesburg”

Nigerian writer and filmmaker, Onyeka Nwelue, has announced the release of his book, The Nigerian Mafia: Johannesburg. The filmic novel, the third instalment of a ten-book series set in 10 countries, will be published by Jacana Media Publisher on May 1st, 2024, in South Africa. 

The Nigerian Mafia: Johannesburg follows the story of a Nollywood actor, Uche Mbadiegwu, who finds himself entangled in a web of deceit as he escapes from Brazil with the help of a Sierra Leonean diplomat, only to encounter the enigmatic Professor Bern Steyn, a renowned criminologist at the University of Johannesburg. As Uche navigates Johannesburg, he crosses paths with individuals whose motivations and agendas are as diverse as they are dangerous. From Chinese businesswoman, Huan Lin Zhang, to Pastor Tim Cletus, a self-anointed Nigerian clergyman involved in visa racketeering and trafficking. This third instalment, set in Johannesburg, promises to take readers on a thrilling journey through the underworld of crime, deception, and ambition.

Onyeka Nwelue

Onyeka Nwelue is a prolific writer with over 20 award-winning books. He is a filmmaker, publisher, talk-show host, and bookseller. He is also the founder of the James Currey Society. He was an academic visitor at the African Studies Centre, University of Oxford, and a Visiting Scholar at the Centre of African Studies at the University of Cambridge. The Nigerian Mafia: Mumbai received the 2021 Crime Fiction Lovers award for Best Indie Novel and the 2021 ANA Prose Prize, and has been a favourite at film festivals, winning Best Feature Film by a director.
