Popular streaming service, Netflix, is set to release a film adaptation of The 30th Candle, a novel by South African writer, Angela Makholwa. The film, described as Mzansi’s version of Sex and the City, will premiere on Netflix on August 18, 2023, as Love, Sex & 30 Candles. The film will star Amo Chidi, Gabisile Tshabalala, Candice Modiselle, Bahumi Mhlongo, Lunga Shabalala, Loyiso McDonald, Anthony Oseyemi, and Terence Bridgett.

Filmed in South Africa, Love, Sex & 30 Candles follows the lives of Dikeledi (Chidi), Sade (Tshabalala), Linda (Modiselle), and Nolwazi (Mhlongo), as their friendship gets tested when deep secrets and revelations threaten to pull them apart. Love, Sex & 30 delves into subjects like love, forgiveness, confronting one’s choices, and friendship.

In a press release, the film director, Stephina Zwane, said, “With Love, Sex & 30 Candles, we aimed to craft a story that resonates with viewers on a deep, emotional level. The bond of friendship and the journey of self-discovery are universal themes that we hope will touch the hearts of our audience.”

The film is a production of Sorele Media and was directed and produced by Stephina Zwane and Salamina Mosese.
