Two years since its founding in Awka, Anambra State, The Unboxed Party has grown to become one of Nigeria’s most recognisable rave parties and a significant part of nightlife in southern Nigeria, having been hosted in major cities across the country.

The Unboxed Party strives to create an alternative to the traditional Nigerian club scene. “There are no VIPs or things like that. We want to create a level playing field for partygoers. Our universal language is vibe. Bring your energy, and you will be taken to the stratosphere,” says Bugatti, the brand manager.

Over the past two years, The Unboxed Party has made remarkable progress. It has become a key platform and attraction for creatives in the music and club scene, from hypemen to DJs. It is also celebrated for showcasing young, emerging talent.

Nigeria’s purported youngest DJ, the 7-year-old DJ Trish, has been featured in past editions. However, The Unboxed Party has faced its own unique challenges. According to Bugatti, funding was a significant issue during the first 18 months, until sponsors such as Dubic Malt, Don Royale, Odogwu Bitters, and others stepped in to support the initiative.

Additionally, many creatives were initially sceptical about the concept, he said. Now, in the short time since The Unboxed Party’s rise in the entertainment scene, similar parties have sprung up, further energising and electrifying nightlife in southern Nigeria.

One of The Unboxed Party’s most distinctive features is its commitment to retaining a street feel and aesthetic, with revellers packed into open-air arenas and tents. Another hallmark is its scheduling on weekdays rather than weekends, fostering a strong community of music lovers and creating a unique venue for youth connectivity.

This December, on the 19th, at the Reboot Lounge in Awka, the party promises to deliver an unforgettable experience for its second-anniversary edition.

“We are going to show people a good time—what it truly means to be unboxed. We are bringing the rave”, says Bugatti.
