Nigerian filmmaker, Bolanle Austen-Peters, has announced the inaugural Lagos International Theatre Festival (LITF). The festival, in partnership with the Lagos State government, will be held from November 15th-17th across four locations: The National Theatre, Terra Kulture, Muson Centre, and John Randle Centre.
The festival will include workshops, masterclasses, and panel discussions led by industry professionals. Attendees will also be treated to musicals, skits, and other artistic works that will showcase the beauty of African culture. Theatre-related merchandise will also be sold at the event.
While speaking about the festival in a press statement, Austen-Peters said, “The creative industry is the lifeblood of every thriving nation, and Nigeria is richly endowed with immense talent and creativity. This is the one resource that is limitless, a gift from God. We must create platforms where our creatives can tell their stories, explore their craft, and share our values with the world. That’s why we are launching the Lagos International Theatre Festival”.
The festival will be supported by First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Dorman Long Engineering, Amstel Malta, and the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts. According to the organisers, this inaugural edition aims to “foster a thriving community of thespians, promote excellence, and drive sustainability in the creative industry”. The festival is also predicted to positively impact the state’s economy, create job opportunities for theatre enthusiasts, and promote tourism in the state.
