African artistes: Asake, Burna Boy, Rema, Tems, and Tyla have been nominated at the 2024 edition of the Billboard Music Awards.
Nigerian superstars Burna Boy and Rema return to the spotlight this year with nominations in the ‘Top Afrobeats Artiste’ category, alongside Tems and Asake. Burna previously clinched the inaugural ‘Top Afrobeats Artiste’ award at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards, while Rema won the ‘Top Afrobeats Song’ award for his chart-dominating “Calm Down (Remix)” featuring Selena Gomez. Tems also earns a nomination for her song “Me & U” in the ‘Top Afrobeats Song’ category.
South African breakout star, Tyla, leads the pack with six impressive nominations. She is recognised in the ‘Top Afrobeats Artiste’ and ‘Top R&B Artiste’ categories and earns additional nods in the ‘Top R&B Album’, ‘Top R&B Female Artiste’, ‘Top R&B Song’, and ‘Top Afrobeats Song’ categories.
She secures her spot in the Top Afrobeats Song category thrice with her song “Jump” featuring Gunna & Skillibeng, “Truth or Dare”, and her global hit song, “Water”. Other nominees in the category include Adam Port & Stryv, featuring Malachiii for “Move”.
