Nigerian entertainment heavyweight, Bright Okpocha, better known as Basketmouth, is set to make waves in cinemas across Nigeria with the release of his debut feature-length film, A Ghetto Love Story, slated to premiere on November 22, 2024. The highly anticipated film represents a culmination of Basketmouth’s multifaceted career in comedy, music, acting, and now filmmaking.

During a private screening at Filmhouse Cinemas, Lagos—attended by close friends, colleagues, and select industry insiders—Basketmouth hinted that A Ghetto Love Story might mark the final chapter in his entertainment journey.

“This is where it ends for me. The movie part of it is the last. It’s my best part, and I like to save the best for the last”, he shared, reflecting on his career’s evolution. The screening was met with enthusiastic applause and standing ovations, setting high expectations for the film’s public release.

In an exclusive interview with Afrocritik, Basketmouth discussed the balancing act of his varied roles, saying, “I see it as a journey, so it doesn’t stress me. It’s all about blending and coordinating. I was able to merge music with movies because movies need music, and I make music. It’s quite easy. I’m having fun.”

A Ghetto Love Story boasts of an impressive lineup, with Basketmouth as the executive producer alongside Victoria “MizVick” Eze, who penned the screenplay. The film is directed by celebrated filmmaker Daniel Oriahi and features an ensemble cast of Nigerian talents, including Beverly Osu, Akah Nnani, Dorathy Bachor, Adaobi Dibor, Efe Irele, Patience Ozokwor, Wale Ojo, Chioma Akpotha, Bethel Njoku (Senator), and Ehizojie Okoeguale (VJ Ehiz).
