Burna Boy, Tems, Yemi Alade, Others Bag Nominations at the 2025 Grammy Awards

African artistes nominated in the Best African Music Performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards

The Grammy awards, which is scheduled to take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 2nd, 2025, will see African artistes compete for music’s biggest prize.

African artistes; Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Asake, Tems, Angelique Kidjo, Lojay, Wizkid, Davido, and others have been nominated in the 67th Grammy Awards. The awards, which is scheduled to take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 2nd, 2025, will see African artistes compete for music’s biggest prize.  

Nigerian superstar, Yemi Alade, earns her first Grammy nomination in the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category for her hit track “Tomorrow”. Davido and Lojay are also nominated in this category for their collaboration with Chris Brown on the song “Sensational”. Other celebrated nominees include Burna Boy, Tems, and Asake who received nods in this category for their respective songs “Higher”, “Love Me Jeje”, and “MMS”.

Tems emerges as a prominent figure in this year’s Grammys with nominations across three categories. Her debut album, Born In The Wild, is recognised in the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category, alongside fellow Nigerian artiste, Rema, whose album, HEIS, also earned a nomination. Adding to her achievements, Tems’s track “Burning” from her album has also received a nod for ‘Best R&B Song’.

In the ‘Best Global Music Performance; category, legendary Beninese-French singer, Angélique Kidjo, is nominated for her collaboration with the Soweto Choir on the powerful track “Sunlight To My Soul”. Representing Ghana, Reggae and Afro-Roots artiste, Rocky Dawuni, is also nominated in this category for his song “Rise”.

Other nominees include Shaboozey who is nominated for ‘Best New Artiste’, along with ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ for his contribution to Beyoncé’s viral track, “Spaghetti” featuring Linda Martell. 

His hit single, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” garnered nominations for ‘Best Country Solo Performance’ and ‘Song of the Year’, while a remix of the track with David Guetta earned him a nod in the ‘Best Remixed Recording’ category.

Also making headlines is Northern Irish rapper and singer, Jordan Adetunji, who secured a nomination in ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ for his track “Kehlani”, which features the American artiste of the same name.

With nominations spanning various genres and categories, African artistes are making a powerful impact on the global stage, reaffirming the continent’s invaluable contribution to music worldwide.
